Nestled against the Cairngorm National Park and only 6 miles from Kirriemuir, Falls of Holm bed and breakfast, in Glenisla on the Angus/Perthshire border, is a great weekend base for bird watchers or for those who just appreciate nature.
For bird watchers, both Kinnordy Loch and Lintrathen Loch are very close by. Both lochs have hides which are open to the public all year round. Montrose Basin, a magnet for bird watchers, is also only 40 minutes drive.
If you would like to incorporate a bird watching tour with your stay we recommend Angus Bird Tours.
At Falls of Holm nature walks have been designed around the farm for the enjoyment of our visitors. Take a stroll through the hillside flower meadow, along the edge of the burn or through the garden grounds to the orchard. Alternatively, just sit back and observe it all from the comfort of our lounge or patio.
Ospreys fish in the ponds directly in front of the house and the rutting calls of the deer can be heard in the surrounding hills during the autumn months. This year, a wild cat (with distinctive ringed tail) was sighted in our wild flower meadow, where two roe deer does also reared their young. A family of colourful woodpeckers are among the many birds that feed at our lounge windows while red squirrel, grey wagtails and partridge are regular visitors to our garden.
The glens of Angus have a superb natural heritage and are well worth a visit for nature enthusiasts. The glens form the southern edge of the Cairngorm National Park and whether you are keen to climb the Angus hills, explore the local nature hot spots or whether your preference is to relax in the beautiful environs of Falls of Holm a special experience awaits.
